Ever wonder what an interior design team actually does on install day? We’re taking you behind the scenes!
This month our team wrapped up a design project in a charming, historical Shaker Heights neighborhood outside of Cleveland. Over the course of two days we wrapped up all the finishing touches, bringing our final vision to life. It’s always an exciting few days as an interior designer to see a home come to life after months (somtimes longer!) of planning. Let’s take a look behind the scenes at what a design team actually does on install day. Read on below! Top 5 things our design team does on a project install day:
- Recieve all the furnishings, textiles, and other finishes like artwork and lighting. While everything is getting unloaded into the house, we are there to direct people where to put things. We also will do a quality check to make sure everything is in perfect condition!
- We come prepped on install day with print-outs of our room drawings and design boards. From these helpful documents, we can tell if anything is missing and know exactly where everything goes in the home. All of our hardwork in the early stages of the design process really pay off on install day. At this point, we’re really just putting together the last pieces of the puzzle!
- Assemble! We stay busy unboxing items, assembling lamps, hanging artwork, making up the beds with new linens, etc.
- Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other tradespeople working with us on the home. By install day, most of the projects they were working on are done, but sometimes there will be a few lingering tasks. For example, maybe custom cabinetry needs hardware installed, or there is a light fixture that needs updated. We like to go through every detail to make sure everyone is on the same page and working to get the project wrapped up on schedule.
- The fun part – a walk through with our client! Sometimes this will be on the same day as an install or other times it may be in the following days. But at this point in a project, our client finally gets to see their home finished! We love getting to see their reactions. Even though we prepare as many visuals as possible throughout the process so that they know what to expect, it’s ALWAYS different seeing everything in person for the first time. That’s when we can see the reality set in that, yes, this is now YOUR beautiful home.
